The central bank of Nigeria has granted the final approval for the establishment of Momo Payment Service Bank (Momo PSB). The date of commencement will be communicated to the CBN in accordance with its requirements.
Leading operators in Ghana sign national roaming agreement
MTN Ghana and Vodafone Ghana announced significant progress in the bid to implement a national roaming service in Ghana amongst operators. In this regard, MTN Ghana and Vodafone Ghana have entered a strategic partnership to pilot national roaming in the Volta Region as a first step to a broader nationwide national roaming partnership. This agreement will see Vodafone Ghana expand coverage of its network by leveraging MTN’s network infrastructure in this pilot phase.
Millicom exits African telecom market
Millicom International Cellular S.A. stated that it has completed the transaction announced on April 19, 2021 for the sale of its operation in Tanzania to a consortium led by Axian, a pan-African group. In accordance with the terms of the sale, Axian has assumed ownership of the business, including its debt and other obligations, and Millicom has received net cash consideration of approximately $100 million. The transaction completes Millicom’s multi-year plan to divest its African operations and associated obligations and liabilities and to focus on its Latin America markets.
Ethio Telecoms in partnership with internet providers to resell its internet service
Ethio telecom signed a three-year contractual agreement with five virtual internet service partners namely WebSprix IT Solutions PLC, VIVATECH Trading PLC, Zergaw ISP, Skynet IT Solution PLC and Dulle Business Group. Based on the contractual agreement, new partners will exclusively provide fixed broadband internet service and are believed to broadly availing the service accessible to customers at large and contributing to the overall efforts of the nation in realizing the digital transformation strategy.
