Orange Group reveals the financial results of full-year 2021, with 42.5 billion euros worth of revenues, up by 0.8%. This is driven by the solid performance of the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region at 10.6% and a strong increase in equipment sales at 8.5%.

Intelsat, operator of the world’s largest integrated satellite and terrestrial network, has been selected by Vodacom DRC, a leading mobile telecommunication company in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to provide its Ku-band satellite services. Intelsat’s end-to-end managed CellBackhaul service will serve as an alternative backhaul service to certain sites as a component of Vodacom’s Rural Communication Solution (RCS) initiative to bring mobile services to deep rural sites in DRC.

Cairo, 14 February 2022: Telecom Egypt, Egypt’s first integrated telecom operator and one of the largest subsea cables operators in the region, and GRID Telecom, subsidiary of the Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO) in Greece, signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to connect Greece and Egypt using submarine cable infrastructure.

Mobile operator Safaricom, which is preparing to launch its operations in Ethiopia in April, has reportedly begun negotiations on a new infrastructure sharing agreement with the historic Ethio Telecom. Anwar Soussa, CEO of Safaricom in Ethiopia, said that the two parties are currently working with the Ethiopian Communication Authority (ECA) to work out the details of the partnership.

Orange announced its participation in the SEA-ME-WE 6 (Southeast Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 6) consortium, for the construction of a new so-called "express" submarine system which will directly connect France, from Marseille to Singapore.

Cairo, 22 February 2022: Telecom Egypt, Egypt’s first integrated telecom operator and one of the largest subsea cables operators in the region, announced that it is extending its reach through the Southeast Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 6 (SEA-ME-WE 6) subsea cable, as part of the cable’s consortium. The new cable will cross Egypt over the company’s distinctive infrastructure through trans-Egypt’s new geo diversified crossings and landing points from the other cables in the SEA-ME-WE family.

Etisalat Misr and Honeywell signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop advanced solutions for smart buildings, communities and cities in Egypt. The companies will collaborate to build a cloud-based IoT platform to help further the advancement of both greenfield and brownfield projects across Egypt.
