Leading Australian satellite telecommunications company Pivotel has announced the launch of the world's first satellite device that combines the Inmarsat Fleet Xpress Network Service Device (NSD) with the RedPort Optimizer Enterprise satellite router and VoIP gateway to deliver an all-in-one communications solution for maritime and satellite providers.

Angola confirmed the premature death of its first national telecoms satellite, Angosat-1, which was launched in December and was expected to have a working life of 15 years. The Russian-made Angosat-1 struggled with repeated setbacks immediately after its launch from the Baikonur space center in Kazakhstan.

Egypt hosted the 11th Arab Robotics Championship from March 23-26, dubbed one of the most powerful competitions in the Arab world in the field of robotics. Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, H.E. Yasser ElKady, inaugurated the first phase of HitekNOFAL- Hengtong Optic, an optical fiber cables factory in Badr city, on 6 March, with joint Egyptian-Chinese investments, amounting to $30 million, within three years, between the Egyptian company HitekNOFAL and the Chinese Hengtong Group.
