Telecom Egypt and the Sudatel Telecom Group signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in the field of international connectivity between Egypt and Sudan.

Under the arrangement, the two companies aim to achieve optimal utilization of the terrestrial network that connects the two countries and develop it with the latest technologies to support the transportation of international traffic, as well as linking the Sudatel landing station in Port Sudan and the Egyptian communications landing stations in the Red Sea and the submarine cables in it, according to a statement issued.

The agreement was signed via video conference by Adel Hamed, managing director and CEO of Telecom Egypt, and Magdy Taha, CEO and generalmanager of Sudatel Telecom Group.

The development follows the announcement of the HARP submarine cable system that expects to connect entire African continent with Egypt and Europe.

Telecom Egypt recorded a net profit of LE 4.9 billion during 2020, marking an increase of 10 percent on a year- on year basis (YoY).
