Hormuud Telecom, Somalia’s leading telecommunications firm, announced that they’ve received their ISO 9001:2015 certification. They are the first Somali corporate entity to achieve this certification.

Hormuud, founded in 2002, is the leading telecommunications firm by market share in Somalia with over 12,000 shareholders. Hormuud was awarded the ISO 9001:2015 certification following a thorough audit by the accredited Bureau Veritas, a leading certification body.

This international standard acknowledges that Hormuud’s products and services satisfy the needs of their customers through an effective quality management system and meet all the relevant regulatory requirements.

With this 9001:2015 certification, Hormuud cements its position as a market leader within the competitive Somali telecommunications and joins several other certified East African firms. It solidifies Hormuud as playing a transformative role in developing the country’s digital economy.

Chairman and CEO, Ahmed Yusuf, who founded the company nearly two decades ago, commented “I am delighted that Hormuud have achieved this ISO 9001:2015 certification as an effective quality management system. We are the first Somali corporate entity to achieve this accolade. “

“This certification is evidence of our natural progress as a telecommunications leader in Somalia and we will continue to provide exemplary products to our customers, widening financial inclusion throughout our country.”

Hormuud will continue to expand its service offerings in order to accelerate ICT driven financial inclusion across Somalia through its EVC Plus mobile money platform. By reaching new customers, Hormuud is guided by its mission to widen access to finance for the most marginalised and vulnerable Somali communities.
