During his participation at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference (ITUPP) in Dubai, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology of Egypt Amr Talaat has met with high level figures and peers to discuss cooperation at the level of ICT development in Egypt.
Talaat met with the ITU Secretary-General Houlin Zaou, where they discussed enhancing means of cooperation between the Egyptian government and the ITU. The meeting also discussed the latest preparations for Egypt's hosting of the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-19) - one of the largest ICT conferences in the world - and the Radiocommunication Assembly (RA), due to be held on 21 October to 22 November 2019, in Sharm El Sheikh. The meeting also emphasized Egypt's readiness to host this major international conference and to provide it with all the necessary elements for making this conference a success as an international event.
Talaat also held a meeting with the Secretary of State for Digital Progress in Spain Albert Medrán, where they discussed means of cooperation between the two countries in the ICT field, especially in the use of ICT applications in e-health. They also discussed means to benefit from this model and transfer expertise in this field under the project implemented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) in cooperation with the Ministry of Health (MoH) to automate the new health insurance system in Egypt.
The meeting also discussed cooperation in smart city management applications, since Barcelona is a pioneer city in this field. This is in addition to cooperation in the field of digital games, digital empowerment programs, use of digital technology and mobile applications in business management and finding solutions to the challenges which face the society.
Talaat also met with the Minister of Communications of Ghana Ursula Gefti Ousakufol, where they agreed to implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed between the two countries last December, through a specific action plan. The MoU entails a number of cooperation areas, including planning and establishing technology parks in Ghana, transferring of Egyptian expertise to the Ghanaian side in the field of e-applications and e-government, and promoting Egyptian technological products in the Ghanaian market.
The ICT Minister also held a meeting with the Minister of Communications and Information Technology of Uganda Frank Tumwebaze. During the meeting, they reviewed the opportunities of bilateral cooperation between the two countries and highlighted close cooperation between Egypt and Uganda in the ICT field. In this regard, Talaat invited Tumwebaze to visit Egypt to discuss aspects of joint cooperation between the two countries in the ICT field.
