Michael Joseph has stepped down from his position as a director on the board of Safaricom PLC.

Throughout his tenure at Safaricom, which began in 2000, Michael Joseph has held various significant roles, including general manager, chief executive officer (serving twice), director and chairman of the board.

Notably, Joseph was the driving force behind the establishment and growth of Safaricom Limited, serving as its inaugural CEO. Under his guidance, the company's subscriber base expanded from fewer than 18,000 in 2000 to over 17 million by his retirement in November 2010, solidifying its status as a preeminent company in East Africa.

The telco acknowledged Joseph's pivotal contributions, citing the deep connections he cultivated within communities, leading to innovative product development and services. Particularly noteworthy was his instrumental role in the successful launch and remarkable expansion of M-Pesa, along with its associated services.

Regarding his future endeavors, the telecom company stated that Joseph's departure from the board stems from his intention to concentrate on other ventures. The company's board expressed gratitude for Joseph's devoted service, insightful guidance, and unwavering commitment to Safaricom, extending best wishes for his forthcoming endeavors.
